Mata can decide to leave for Arsenal willingly

The decision to leave Chelsea is now down to the 25-year-old, who is not guaranteed enough playing time under new manager Jose Mourinho, who has made it clear that Oscar and Hazard are first choice.

The Blues boss also shelled out £30million on Brazilian midfielder Willian from Anzhi and started with Schurrle against Bayern Munich in the Super Cup on Friday.

Mata was left out of Spain's squad for their World Cup qualifiers and will be desperate to make the competition in Brazil next year.

Arsene Wenger missed out on the Spaniard two years ago, when he left Valencia for Stamford Bridge, but is still a keen admirer of the playmaker.

The Gunners are willing to pay £30million for the player, but have left it to him, while Mourinho is also trying to cut the wage bill that has increased this summer.
