Sir Alex Ferguson's wise words helped Andy Murray

Andy Murray's bid for Wimbledon glory this year has been boosted by a motivational pep talk from former Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson.
The 71-year-old paid his fellow Scot a personal visit to congratulate Murray after watching his five set quarter-final victory over Fernando Verdasco from the Royal Box on Wednesday evening.

"We spoke for 15 or 20 minutes after the match," said Murray. "We talked about a lot of things - about his retirement, a lot about football.

"Then at the end I spoke to him not so much about the match but about everything that goes with it."

Murray is back at SW19 today for his fifth consecutive semi-final clash, this time taking on Jerzy Janowicz of Poland for a place in another Grand Slam final.

After taking three-and-a-half hours to see off the challenge of Verdasco, Janowicz will perhaps be in slightly better shape after his straight sets victory over compatriot Luckasz Kubot.

Add to that the fact Janowicz beat Murray in their only previous meeting in Paris last November, and the challenge facing the number two seed becomes all the more apparent. But, Ferguson's wise words will have given him reason to be confident.

"He was giving me advice on how to handle certain pressures and expectations, those sort of things,"
