Ondo Police dismisses officer for killing truck driver

The Ondo State Police Command has dismissed one of its officers, Corporal Adegboro Kayode who shot and killed a truck driver, Friday Igbinedion, at the Benin-Ore road on August 9, this year.

Disclosing this, the Police Public Relations Officer,[PPRO] Mr. Wole Ogodo, said although, six policemen were at the police post when the incident happened, only Corporal Kayade was found guilty of the offence after a trial by Police authorities.

According to him, Kayode confessed that he carried out the shooting without the participation of others, and he had been consequently tried and dismissed.

He added that he was also charged to court for murder and he has been remanded while the trial goes on.

Ogodo said "The other policemen were tried along with him, but they were not found guilty. Kayode confessed that he did the firing alone and we cannot punish the innocent along the guilty," Ogodo said.

Other policemen earlier arrested over the incident, but now freed are Sergeant Audu Mamven, Sergeant Akinlotan Johnson, Corporal Mohammed Musa, Corporal Samuel Arabamen and Corporal Omole Godwin.

The late Igbinedion was said to have been shot by the policeman after an argument ensued over the absence of a registration number on the truck he was driving.
